BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. Kazakhstan registered a 17.7 percent increase in the gross inflow of foreign direct investments (FDIs), which amounted to $28 billion in 2022, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.

Consequently, Kazakhstan managed to attract 14.3 percent more FDIs compared to the projected amount of $24 billion.

The Netherlands was the top FDI donor with $8.33 billion. The US was a distant second with $5.1 billion, while Switzerland occupied the third position with $2.8 billion. Other countries in the top 10 included Belgium, Russia, South Korea, China, France, the UK, and Germany.

In terms of specific industries, the mining industry received FDIs worth $12.1 billion, which is a 25 percent increase compared to 2021. Some $5.6 billion (an increase of 3 percent) were invested in the manufacturing industry, while retail and wholesale trade investments totaled at $5.08 billion (a 36 percent increase).

Atyrau region received the highest volume of FDIs, which stood at 8.2 billion, while Almaty was a close second with $7.57 billion. Astana, the third most popular destination, received $2.25 billion. On the other end of the spectrum, the Zhetysu region received the smallest amount of investment, totaling 23.4 million.

The results achieved in 2022 were the highest results achieved during the previous decade. The all-time high was recorded in 2012 when Kazakhstan attracted $28.9 billion.
