The priorities of the state are going to be on the agenda of the Council of Elders which is planned to be held on October 23 in the city of Turkmenbashi in the Balkan region. The decree was signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimukhamedow.

The Council of Elders is convened every year and functions as an advisory body.

The State Commission headed by the president was established with its members' approval and is due to organise the holding of the event, reception, collection and analysis of the proposals and appeals. The respective ministries and establishments were also ordered to take action for organising the holding of the upcoming council.

During the last governmental meeting Berdimuhamedow said that "that Council of Elders reflects peculiarities of public and political outlook, governmental traditions as a part of the historical heritage and centuries old mind experience of Turkmen".

The Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports that priority governmental and public issues are discussed with honourable elders due to deep respect towards the representatives of an older generation.

"This is how Turkmen acted throughout history, so this is the custom for a state's modern life as well," the head of the state claimed while signing the respective decree on the Turkmen Council of Elders, a report says.
