President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received credentials from the newly appointed US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen, the National News Agency of the Republic (UzA) reported.

President Karimov congratulated Spratlen on the appointment and wished success in her diplomatic mission.

In a conversation, President Karimov and Spratlen discussed the prospects of strengthening the bilateral relations, relevant international and regional issues.

The sides attach great importance to the expansion of the mutually beneficial and fruitful relations, including trade-economic, investment and other areas, using the existing potential to increase the trade turnover and establishing the joint high-tech enterprises in various spheres.

The consultations between the foreign ministries, the business forum with the members of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and business circles of the republic were held in Tashkent in late 2014.

They allowed determining the priority areas for cooperation and the practical ways of implementing the agreements.

Both sides also exchanged views on cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

It was previously reported that the US Senate approved Spratlen's candidacy as Ambassador to Uzbekistan in December 2014. Earlier, she has led the US Embassy in Kyrgyzstan since 2011.

Spratlen replaced George Krol, who has worked at this position since 2010. Currently, Krol serves as US ambassador to Kazakhstan.
