President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, who is on an official visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan's presidential press-service said.

On behalf of President Berdimuhamedov, Meredov confirmed the readiness of the Turkmen leadership to raise the bilateral relations to a higher level, meeting the long-term interests of the two countries and peoples.

It was stressed during the meeting that today the multifaceted relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have become dynamic. They are stable, consistent and fruitful, the statement said.

The friendly relations between the two countries are being successfully developed on a strong foundation of the centuries-old common history, cultural values, the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and sympathy of the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples, the statement said.

The joint concrete results in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other areas created a solid foundation for steady and consistent strengthening of mutually beneficial partnership.

The bilateral trade turnover volume between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is being rapidly growing. As of 2014, it exceeded $410 million, which is 16.6 percent more than in 2013.

The views on international and regional issues of mutual interest were exchanged at the meeting.
