Uzbekistan to implement project for construction of copper-processing plant

Uzbek government will implement the project for the construction of the copper-processing plant on the territory of the Almalyk Mining - Metallurgical Complex (country’s Almalyk city), Trend reports citing the press services of the Uzbek Ministry of Innovations.

According to the press-services, the project is estimated at a cost $5.1 billion.

The territory on which the plant will be constructed covers 11,000 hectares and contains such valuable and rare metal deposits as gold, copper, silver, molybdenum, and selenium.

It is expected to produce 290,000 tons of cathode copper, 38 tons of gold, and 203 tons of silver at the copper-processing plant in 2021-2025.

Additionally, 400,000 tons of cathode copper, 50 tons of gold, and 270 tons of metallic silver will be produced in 2024-2028.

The government also plans to build a lime plant, power grid with a capacity of 650 megawatts, and other infrastructure facilities within the framework of the project.
