BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 22. Uzbekistan tripled its gold exports, Trend reports citing the country's State Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, in January 2022, Uzbekistan sold gold for $587 million, and in February this figure increased to $1.7 billion. At the same time, the physical volume of gold in reserves for the month decreased from 11.6 to 10.9 million troy ounces (nearly 21.8 tons).

Gold is the main export commodity of Uzbekistan with a 57 percent share.

According to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, as of March 1, 2022, gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to $35.36 billion. The value of gold in reserves fell by $50.4 million to $20.72 billion. At the same time, the foreign exchange reserves grew by $983.2 million in February to $13.52 billion.

In November 2021, Uzbekistan was the world leader in the sale of this precious metal, followed by Turkey, Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
