Iranian petrochemical units will start producing dimethyl ether (DME), as the second generation diesel fuel, which has excellent fuel properties compared to diesel or biodiesel, the Mehr news agency reported.

DME is made by the gasification of coal, natural gas or biomass feedstock.

DME is one of those fuels: vastly superior cold starting, literally smokeless, quieter combustion, no fuel waxing in cold climates to clog fuel lines, lower greenhouse gas emissions than diesel fuel.

Iran's gasoline and diesel fuel production capacities hit around 50 million liters and 100 million liters per day respectively.

Iran is now exporting gasoline and diesel fuel to neighboring countries.

Iraq, Armenia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are now importing or have called for the importation of gasoline and diesel fuel from Iran.
