Iran’s power generation capacity unchanged in 3Q

Despite the 1.8-GW increase in Iran’s power generation capacity in the first half of current fiscal year (started March 21), the country hasn’t added to this volume in the third quarter of the year.

According to the weekly report published by Energy Ministry, the country’s nominal power generation capacity stood at about 75.91 GW in the end of 3Q, same as in 1H.

Iran plans to increase the volume by 1 GW by the end of the current fiscal year, the report says. This 1 GW should be added to the power generation capacity in 4Q.

According to the report, some 49.577 billion cubic meters of gas was consumed in power sector in 9 months of the fiscal year, which indicates an 8.5-percent growth year-on-year. The fuel oil and gas oil usage decreased by 55.7 percent and 32.5 percent, respectively, to 2.165 billion liters and 2.373 billion liters.

In total, Iran generated 226.033 billion kWh of electricity in the nine months. Iran’s electricity export decreased by 27 percent to 5.577 billion kWh, while import increased by 7 percent to 3.318 billion kWh, during the mentioned period, the report says.
