An Iranian company is going to import foot-and-mouth-disease vaccine from Russia and is currently testing the target vaccines, according to the Head of Iran Veterinary Organization Mehdi Khalaj.
Meanwhile another company is already importing such vaccines from another country and a third Iranian medical manufacturer is expected to produce the vaccines domestically, Khalaj told at the conference on August 19.
Yet, he commented, that a foot-and-mouth-disease endemic is under control and the number of cases has not changed significantly.
A recent endemic of the disease broke out in Iran’s provinces of Qom and Western Azerbaijan.
Despite the government’s efforts to carry out a vaccination plan, the number of endemic epicenters has lowered from 2,700 to 270, according to the official reports from the Ministry of Health.
