Iran’s northern Semnan Province has about 2.5 billion tons of geological resources, said Behrouz Asvadi, Head of the Semnan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, Trend reports referring to the organization's website.

According to him, 22 million tons of mining material is extracted annually in the province.

Additionally, 4,000 people have been employed in 599 mines operating in the province.

"Some 60 percent of Iran's salt and 40 percent of its gypsum is supplied from Semnan Province," he said.

Asvadi said that 95 percent of Iran’s zeolitic substances are extracted in Semnan, adding that 59 mines have been licensed during the 9 months of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).

"It is expected that production will increase with the opening of these mines, and new jobs will be provided," he said.
