Agriculture in Azerbaijan (January-August 2013)

As of September 1, 2013, Azerbaijan produced agricultural products worth 3.731.5 billion manat, which is 7.8 percent more than in January-August 2012. Agricultural output at stable prices increased by 4.5 percent, including 3.9 percent of crop production, 5.2 percent of livestock production.

The crops are being collected in Azerbaijan. As of early September, the volume of Azerbaijan's grain harvest, except for maize, exceeded 2.7 million tons from a 1.032.600 million hectare cultivated area. On average, the yield per hectare hit 26.6 centners. Despite grain gathering in the regions is being completed, maize gathering is still underway. Maize production reached 58,800 tons or 33.5 percent or 13,000 hectares of the area. Taking into account the maize, grain and grain and legume gathering increased by 132,100 tons or by 4.9 percent to 2.8 million tons in Azerbaijan. The annual demand for food grain is about 1.6 million tons.

The farms of the country also collected 736,300 tons of potatoes (4.1 percent more than last year), 15,800 tons of feed sunflower (6.5 percent less), 988,500 tons of vegetables (2.1 percent more), 398,100 tons of melons (0.3 percent more), 340,400 tons of fruits and berries (2.7 percent more), 31,900 tons of grapes (0.9 percent more), 2.1 million tons of tobacco (16 percent less) and 399.3 tons of green tea leaves (0.9 percent more).

The livestock production growth was observed in Azerbaijan for eight months of 2012.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the country produced 304,700 tons of meat, 1.227.1 million tons of milk, 914.6 million eggs, 15,600 tons of wool during the reporting period. Meat production increased by 3.1 percent, milk - by 7.1 percent, eggs - by 15.2 percent, wool - 4.2 percent in January-August this year compared to the same period of 2012.
