Information and communication services worth 127.8 million manat were rendered for Azerbaijan's population and organizations in January 2017 or by 2.3 percent less than in January 2016.

Some 79.8 percent of income received through the communication sector accounted for the non-state enterprises during the reporting period.

Around 71.3 percent of the total volume of information and communication services accounted for the services rendered to the population.

Some 50 percent of a total volume of obtained income accounted for mobile services.

Around 63.9 million manat were obtained from the mobile communication services in Azerbaijan in January 2017.

The revenues decreased by 1.1 percent in the mobile communication sector in January 2017 compared to January 2016.

Mobile communication market

Over 64,800 mobile devices were registered in the IMEI-code system in January 2017, which is by 33.1 percent more than in January 2016.

Over 48,700 mobile devices were registered in the IMEI-code system in January 2016.

The total number of IMEI-codes registered via e-government portal has exceeded 1.39 million after the system was launched.

The registration system became operational in Azerbaijan May 1, 2013. It is necessary to register mobile devices imported into the territory of the republic for private use (in the networks of the mobile operators of Azerbaijan) within 30 days.

The mobile devices can be registered through the "Electronic government" (e-gov.az) portal, as well as at Azerpost central post office.

The registration is carried out within 24 hours since the moment of applying. The IMEI code for a mobile device can be registered at 5 manat for personal use, while for commercial sale - 1.6 manat.

Operating system market

Android is the most popular operating system in Azerbaijan. As of February 1, 2017, it ranks first with a 42.8 percent share on the operating system market, which is by 19.7 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

Android’s share increased by 6.2 percent on the Azerbaijani operating system market in January 2017.

A Microsoft Windows 7 market share decreased by 6.5 percent in Azerbaijan in January 2017.

Windows 7 is one of the most popular operating systems in Azerbaijan and ranks second on the operating system market with a 26 percent share.

A Windows 7 share on the Azerbaijani operating system market reduced by 17.4 percent in January 2017 compared to January 2016.

iOS with a 10.4 percent share ranked third. iOS market share increased by 4.4 percent, Windows XP – 2.6 percent, Windows 8.1 – 3.8 percent, Windows 10 – 5 percent, Windows 8 – 1.7 percent and others in January 2017 compared to January 2016.

PC market

As of January 2017, the sale of notebooks and netbooks decreased by 2.6 percent in Azerbaijan, the Global Stats statistical center said.

As of February 1, 2017, the market share of notebooks and netbooks reached 52.1 percent in Azerbaijan, which is by 20 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

As of January 2017, the sale of desktop computers increased by 3.3 percent in Azerbaijan.

As of late January 2017, the market share of desktop computers reached 43.9 percent in Azerbaijan, which is by 15.2 percent less than in January 2016.

The tablet computers rank third in the rating with a 3.8 percent share.

The market share of tablet computers decreased by 0.8 percent in Azerbaijan as of January 2017, which is by 18 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

Social networks

According to the Global Stats statistics center, the activity of Facebook users decreased by 3.8 percent in Azerbaijan in January 2017 compared to December 2016.

As of February 1, 2017, Facebook's share on the social media market in Azerbaijan amounted to 88.1 percent, which is by 3.1 percent less than in the same period of 2016. By popularity Facebook ranks first on the social media market in Azerbaijan.

Twitter with a market share of 3.7 percent ranks second. Twitter users’ activity increased by 34.3 percent in January 2017.

By popularity Pinterest social network ranks third. Pinterest users’ activity increased by 98.6 percent in January 2017 compared to December 2016. As of February 1, 2017, Pinterest market share was 2.82 percent in Azerbaijan, which is by 89.2 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

V Kontakte social network with a market share of 1.69 percent ranks fourth, followed by Tumblr – 1.01 percent, Linkedin – 0.81 percent, Youtube – 0.52 percent and others.

e-commerce

The volume of electronic commerce (e-commerce) market in Azerbaijan amounted to 3.1 million manat in January 2017, said the country’s State Statistics Committee.

The total volume of retail electronic commerce increased by 2.4 times in Azerbaijan in January 2017 as compared to January 2016.

In January 2017, total turnover of retail trade in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.6 billion manat, which is by 1.3 percent more than in January 2016.

In January 2017, goods were obtained by 99.9 percent of non-state business entities, including 11.9 percent of enterprises which have legal entity statuses.
