The Yemeni government have arrested 29 Qaida members in crackdowns against the extremist group since Thursday, the ruling General People's Congress reported on its website Saturday, Xinhua reported.

The Yemeni government have arrested 29 Qaida members in crackdowns against the extremist group since Thursday, the ruling General People's Congress reported on its website Saturday, Xinhua reported.
   Almotamar net said those extremists were arrested during the operation launched by security authorities against the hideouts of Qaida militants in southern Yemen. Among them, 13 were captured in the capital city of Sanaa.
   The detainees were charged with providing Qaida with information and logistic support as it was planning a series of terrorist attacks against governmental facilities and foreign institutions working in the country.
   Eight of those arrested during Sanaa operations were wearing suicide vests apparently in preparation for carrying out attacks in the capital, the report said.
   Yemeni security forces supported with military jets started on Thursday crackdown against Qaida. Thirty four members of the extremist group were reportedly killed by the army during the operations carried out in capital Sanaa and southern province of Abyan.
   The attacks raised a wave of protests in southern province as opposition factions said raids left 18 children and 41 adults dead.
   Earlier on Saturday, The New York Times said Sanaa received military hardware and intelligence support from the United States to help the country combat Qaida terrorists.
