Video footage of snipers firing on protesters in Egypt was shown in court at the trial of former president Hosny Mubarak on Saturday, the semi-official Al Ahram newspaper reported online.
Mubarak is charged with having ordered the killing of protesters in the popular uprising that led to his ousting earlier this year. Around 850 people were killed in the protests, dpa reported.
The audio-video material presented by lawyers for the families of the victims, showed snipers positioned on the roof of the Interior Ministry in Cairo using automatic weapons firing on protesters at nearby Tahrir Square, according to the report.
Mubarak, who is also facing corruption charges, is being tried alongside former interior minister Habib al-Adly and six former security aides. All have pleaded not guilty.
In the coming days, the court will examine evidence in the Mubarak case before the head of Egypt's ruling military council, Hussein Tantawi, testifies in camera on September 24.
