The United Nations on Thursday put at 4,000 the number of those killed in a government crackdown on anti-government protests in Syria, the Doha-based Al Jazeera television station reported.
The broadcaster quoted the UN's high commissioner for human rights Navi Pillay as telling reporters in Geneva that there was evidence of abuse and that authorities should be prosecuted for "crimes against humanity", reported dpa.
