AL accepts Tunisian proposal to create Arab defense institute
The Arab League (AL) foreign ministers have accepted Tunisia's proposal to set up an Arab defense institute and an Arab military academy, the official Tunisian press agency TAP reported Sunday.
The Arab foreign ministers agreed to the proposal at an AL meeting held Saturday in Cairo and the proposal will be further discussed by the pan-Arab body pending implementation, TAP said.
Saturday's meeting, which mainly focused on the Syrian crisis, also discussed the Israel-Palestinian conflict and situation in countries such as Sudan and Somalia, Xinhua reported.
During the opening session of the meeting, Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesslem met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the Syrian crisis, it added.
