Man runs amok, hacks two children to death in Philippines

( dpa ) - A man ran amok in a northern Philippine province Saturday, hacking two young girls to death and seriously wounding another, police said.

Police were still determining why the suspect, 18-year-old Danilo Tolentino Junior, suddenly attacked the three children.

The victims were harvesting vegetables in a village in Gonzaga town in the northern province of Cagayan when the suspect attacked them with a jungle knife.

Two girls, aged 4 and 10, died on the spot due to multiple stab wounds. A 13-year-old girl was in critical condition after the attack.

Police arrested the suspect and were preparing criminal charges against him.
