(dpa) - Concerts and events in eight US cities on Sunday in advance of Earth Day will aim to draw attention to global warming by asking attendees to make phone calls to lawmakers urging action.
Organizers, including the Earth Day Network, expect hundreds of thousands of people to turn out in Washington; New York; San Francisco; Chicago; Los Angeles; Dallas; Miami and Denver, Colorado.
On Washington's national Mall, a grassy park surrounded by museums and monuments, enviromental speeches by lawmakers and activists, educational displays and music will focus on global warming.
Musical artists will include American Idol's Jordin Sparks, Will.I.Am and The Roots.
Earth Day has been celebrated each April 22 since 1970 in the United States.
