Flamengo loses and is out of the Americas League of basketball

Due to their loss in the Americas League of basketball, on Saturday the local media declared that Flamengo is officially kicked out of the 2009 International Basketball Federation's (FIBA) tournament, Xinhua reported.

By a score of 93-84, Flamengo, the reigning Brazilian national champions, lost to the Argentinean team of Libertad Sunchales.

Flamengo's highest scorer was Marceliho, dumping in 23 points, five rebounds and two assists. The game-high scorer was Willie Farley, from Libertad Sunchales, with 26 points.

It was the team's third game against the Argentineans in which they were unable to win the series. Although the Argentineans won, they too were eliminated from the group. The group's winner was the Brazilian team from Brasilia, Universo. The team will be part of the semifinals of this year's competition.

Another Brazilian team is still in the hunt for the 2009 title of the American League as well. The team from Minas Gerais, Minas Tennis Clube, won the right to play in this year's semifinals.
