Turkish President Abdullah Gul shared pictures from his Friday visit to a cemevi (an Alevi house of worship) in Erzincan province via Twitter on Monday Today`s Zaman reported
After attending the Friday prayer, Gul visited a cemevi affiliated with the Erzincan Branch of the Haci Bektaş Veli Anadolu Cultural Foundation. Branch head Sadik Duzgun greeted Gul during his visit to the cemevi.
Gul said he was pleased to visit the Alevi house of worship and he "listened and took notes" when Duzgun spoke. He added that both Sunnis and Alevis have problems all across the country and that it is the duty of statesmen to listen and address them.
Following his trip to Erzincan, Gul went to Gumuşhane province on Saturday. He first stopped in the Kelkit district, where he was welcomed by a huge crowd, then later went on to the city of Gumuşhane, where the national karate team welcomed him. On the same day, Gul and his wife left Gumuşhane for the capital, Ankara.
