Armenian armed forces have broken ceasefire with Azerbaijan 22 times in numerous positions during the last 24 hours, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said on Oct.13.
The armed forces of Armenia, located in the village of Aygedzor of Armenia's Berd district, opened fire at the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces located in the Munjuglu village of Tovuz district.
Azerbaijani positions also took fire from the positions located at the nameless heights and near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy district, Javahirli, Merzili, Yusifjanli of Aghdam, Horadiz, Ashagi Veyselli of Fizuli, Mehdili of Jabrayil, Goyarkh of Terter and Kuropatkino of Khojavend district.
The violation was silenced with return fire.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
