Azerbaijan's Defense Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov will visit Turkey on April 23.
During his visit Hasanov will participate in a ceremony dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Canakkale, according to a message from Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.
Colonel General Hasanov's visit will last until April 25.
Battle of Canakkale (Gallipoli Campaign) was a military campaign carried out by the Entente Powers (British Empire, France and allies) against Turkey's predecessor Ottoman Empire.
The battle took place on the Gallipoli peninsula and lasted from April 25, 1915 till January 9, 1916. The main aim of the Entente Powers' attack was capturing Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire.
However the Entente Powers's naval attack and the subsequent land campaign on the Gallipoli peninsula was repelled and the allies' forces withdrew to Egypt.
Battle of Canakkale is the Ottoman Empire's greatest victories, as it was collapsing during the World War I, and it is considered in Turkey as a defining moment in the nation's history.
