Azerbaijan announces date of municipal elections

Azerbaijan will hold the municipal election on Dec. 23, the decision was made at a meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan on Oct. 21.

The CEC head, Mazahir Panahov, who chaired the meeting, said that the last municipal election was held Dec. 23, 2009, and the municipality members' authority will expire this year.

Panahov said that it is advisable to hold the election on Dec. 23 this year, and then proposed to hold a voting. The proposal was accepted unanimously.

During the meeting, it was noted that the ballots for municipal election will be prepared before Dec. 13, while the announcement of the municipal election results will be completed prior to Jan. 17, 2015.

The municipal election campaign will start 23 days before the election.

The CEC meeting also approved "The planned schedule of major activities on preparation and holding the municipal election in Azerbaijan."

The election will cover 1,607 municipalities throughout the country.
