President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach and President of the European Olympic Committees Patrick Hickey Nov. 20.

Bach said ongoing big development processes in Azerbaijan made deep impression on him, and congratulated President Aliyev on achievements.

Emphasizing the importance of holding the 43rd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Baku, President Aliyev said he was pleased that Azerbaijan hosts such an event.

President Aliyev noted that such events create a good opportunity for guests to get acquainted with the country.

Stressing that Azerbaijan has good experience in organizing international events, President Aliyev expressed confidence that the first European Games would be held successfully.

The parties noted the importance of state attention to the development of sports in Azerbaijan, highlighted the country's contribution to international cooperation in this area, and expressed their satisfaction with the high-level preparations for the first European Games to be held in Baku.

Then Bach presented President Aliyev with a commemorative medal made by the International Olympic Committee for the heads of state.

Ilham Aliyev is one of the first heads of state to receive this commemorative medal.

On November 20, a dinner reception was hosted on behalf of President Aliyev in honor of Bach and Hickey.
