Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 21

By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

The foreign media representatives operating in Azerbaijan must work in accordance with the law and must be accredited on a mandatory basis, Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova told Trend Sept. 21.

She was commenting on the recent arrest of some foreign media representatives by law enforcement bodies.

She said that the non-observance of laws and the refusal from the accreditation by the foreign media representatives entail responsibility.

"The actions taken to remind them of this responsibility are perceived as illegal acts," she said. "They also deliberately refuse to comply with these laws. In case of reminding them of the need to comply with these laws, they could say that they are under pressure and use this against Azerbaijan."

Muradova said that the representatives of some foreign media outlets do not want to be accredited purposefully and are interested in creating a situation, which they can use later for their own purposes.
