Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 8 / Trend M. Aliyev /
Seismic stations to be installed on the bed of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, will evaluate the geodynamic status of the hydrocarbon deposits, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov said at the fifth international conference 'Seismicity, earthquake prediction and seismic stability of buildings' in Baku today, held in connection with the 110th anniversary of the seismic service in Azerbaijan.
"Seabed seismic stations were installed in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea for the first time to carry out comprehensive research and improve the quality of the Republican Seismological Service Centre," he said. "They will accurately register the earthquakes occurring along the seabed and evaluate the geodynamic situation in the oil fields."
As the Azerbaijani territory is a seismically active area, strong earthquakes always occurred in this area, he added.
