By Demir Azizov- Trend:

Uzbekistan and the US have signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the sphere of invoking FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), the message from the US embassy in Uzbekistan said.

The document was signed by the US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Pamela Spratlen and chairman of the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan Botir Parpiev, said the message.

Thus, Uzbekistan became the first country in the Central Asia to sign such a document, said the US embassy.

It should be noted that over 60 countries have signed this intergovernmental agreement with the US.

FATCA was adopted by the US authorities several years ago and entered into force in the summer of 2014. It is aimed at providing the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with the information about the funds deposited by the US citizens in foreign banks.

The US law on FATCA envisages electronic exchange of information on strictly defined formats of electronic documents with the tax authorities of other countries.
