An Italian company, FIAT, has been attracted to Azerenerji JSC for the resolution of problems linked with the energy supply to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), Azerenerji told Trend.

At present receives energy from Turkey (40-50MW) and Iran. An only power station functioning in the NAR, Araz Hydro-Electric Power Station generates 20MW per hour in average. In 2006 Azerenerji will commission in NAR additional power capacity comprising
140 MW.

There are four turbines with the capacity of 16MW in NAR, which were purchased from Turkey in 1992. After several years the generators were ceased due to absence of solarium, as the generators were designed to work on it.

Now they are transferred to gas through the help of the Italian firm. By the end of the year it is planned to put into exploitation the Iranian-Azerbaijani gas pipeline. From the beginning of 2006 the turbines will be commissioned.

In 2006 it is planned to construct a 90 MW module power in the NAR. Azerbaijan’s demand in energy in winter period is 250MW. However, as a result of stable gas delivery the figure could drop this year.
