Azerbaijan Railways plans to extend to 2016-2017 the timing of the reconstruction project of the Baku-Boyuk Kesik railway, which is part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor, company head Arif Asgerov told reporters on Wednesday.

"As part of the state programme of development of the railway system of Azerbaijan for 2010-2014, reconstruction of a 317-km section of the Baku-Boyuk Kasik railway is envisaged," Asgerov said.

However at the same time the head of the company noted that the amount of work on this section of the railway is much more than the envisaged and in total covers 800 kilometres.

He said work on the reconstruction of the 317-kilometre section is planned to be completed before the end of 2014 and the remainder of the work in 2016-17.

Work on the reconstruction of this railway section is carried supported by a Czech EximBank loan in the amount of 215 million euros.

Work on the reconstruction of the Baku - Boyuk Kasik road began on June 10, 2011.
