Cable TV operator in Azerbaijan to buy digital decoders

Cable television operator in Azerbaijan, the B & BTV Communications company will buy decoders for the reception of the commercial TV packages under the NarTV brand in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR). NarTV broadcast service package will be implemented together with the Azerfon LLC, mobile operator of Azerbaijan, a source in the telecommunications market of Azerbaijan told Trend Sept.24.

Broadcasting of the digital content will be implemented in the DVB-T2 standard.

"It is expected that the design of the decoders will be determined before the end of October, and then the process of procurement will begin," the source said.

Test run of a commercial package of digital TV in Nakhchivan was carried out in May 2014.

Commercial package will consist of 70 channels. The minimum monthly fee for viewing the commercial package will cost 7 AZN.

At present, a social digital package comprising all the republic-wide TV, TRT Turkish TV channel and two local TV channels ("Channel 35" and "Nakhchivan TV") is available to the population of the city of Nakhchivan. An antenna broadcasting the digital content is installed on Duzdag broadcasting station.

The subscribers must purchase a decoder for the transition to digital broadcasting. The cost of these devices in the domestic market is 25-30 AZN.
