The US dollar's weight in the multi-currency basket (dollar, euro, ruble) reached 84 percent in Kazakhstan, the Ranking.kz analytical service told Trend Oct. 16.
"Exchange offices sold $2.3 billion in Aug. The monthly growth rate was 24.4 percent. The growth in the demand for the US currency is a seasonal factor. The sold dollars amounted to 411.1 billion KZT. The growth over the month was 23.4 percent," the experts said.
Their calculations show that the KZT monthly average exchange rate to US dollar consolidated by 0.8 percent, reaching 182.07 KZT per US dollar.
"The highest growth rate in dollar sales was recorded in the Pavlodar region - 87 percent, up to 20.2 billion KZT. In the Kyzylorda region, the exchange offices sold dollars a half times more than in July. In the Aktobe region the sales grew by 38 percent," the analysts said.
They noted that over 39 percent of the total sold dollars, or 161.5 billion KZT, accounted for the exchange offices in Almaty.
The second and third places in terms of sales are held by the South Kazakhstan region and Astana: 44.2 billion KZT and 43 billion KZT, respectively (the specific gravity of regions - 10.8 percent and 10.5 percent).
"Among the sold currencies, the US dollar's share in the popular multi-currency basket (dollar, euro, ruble) is 83.6 percent. The greatest preference is given to the US dollar in the South Kazakhstan," the experts said.
According to them the US dollar's share in the total sales of top three currencies in the South Kazakhstan region stood at 95.5 percent, in Kyzylorda - 94.2 percent, and in Almaty - 93.2 percent.
