People's Democratic Party, the ruling party of Tajikistan, gained 65.4 percent of the vote at a recent election to the parliament's lower house, retaining most of the parliamentary seats, RIA Novosti reported March 12.

The election to the Tajik parliament's lower house was held March 1. The first meeting of the lower house's new composition is scheduled for March 17. The Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will address the meeting.

Tajikistan's Central Election Commission published on March 12 the final data on the election held, according to which the difference with the preliminary results was very small.

According to the preliminary results made public by the commission on March 2, the People's Democratic Party collected 65.2 percent of the vote in a single republican constituency.

The final data show that in a single republican district, the Agrarian Party gained 11.7 percent of the vote, and the Economic Reform Party and the Socialist Party gained 7.5 percent and 5.5 percent respectively.

The Democratic Party, the Islamic Renaissance Party, the Communist and the Social Democratic parties were unable to overcome the five percent threshold needed to enter the parliament.

The Islamic Renaissance Party won 1.6 percent of the vote, the Communist Party - 2.2 percent, the Democratic Party - 1.7 percent, and the Social Democratic Party - 0.5 percent.

The preliminary results announced March 2 showed that the Agrarian Party won 11.7 percent of the vote, the Economic Reform Party - 7.6 percent, the Socialist Party - 5.5 percent, the Islamic Renaissance Party - 1.5 percent, the Communist Party - 2.3 percent, the Democratic Party - 1.7 percent, and the Social Democratic Party - 0.5 percent.

Some 35 candidates from the People's Democratic Party, two candidates from the Agrarian and Communist parties each and one candidate from the Democratic and Economic Reform parties each passed to the parliament on 41 single-mandate constituencies.

In the parliament's lower house, which includes 63 MPs, the People's Democratic Party has 51 seats out of 63, the Agrarian Party has five seats, the Economic Reform Party has three seats, communists have two seats, and the democrats and socialists have one seat each.
