The issues of strengthening cooperation in politics, economy and culture have been discussed during the meeting with the Austrian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Gerhard Sailler in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message.

"The issues on cooperation within international organizations, primarily the UN, EU and OSCE, were highlighted among the priority areas of cooperation,” reads the message.

The parties also discussed the opportunities of implementation of joint projects in science and education.

Talks were held at the highest level in May 2015 during the official visit of the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Vienna, where the interest of European countries in natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan was noted.

Earlier, Austria was one of the authors of the “Reliable and stable transit of energy and its role in ensuring sustainable development and international cooperation” project, which was adopted at Turkmenistan’s initiative by the UN General Assembly in 2008 and 2013.

Currently, the EU, Tukmenistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia discuss the possibilities of Turkmen gas supplies to European market.

The Trans Caspian gas pipeline, with an annual capacity of 10-30 billion cubic meters, is one of the options for delivering Turkmen gas to European market.
