Turkmenistan’s GDP grows 6.2% in 2016

GDP growth rate in Turkmenistan amounted to 6.2 percent in 2016, the country’s Ministry of Economy and Development said Feb. 9.

The growth rate has increased by 1.1 percent in the industrial sector, 4.3 percent – construction, 10.7 percent – transportation and communication sector, 14.1 percent – trade, 9.9 percent – agriculture and 10.4 percent – sphere of services.

The volume of investments spent at the expense of all sources of funding amounted to 59.5 billion Turkmen manats in 2016, which is a 0.4 percent increase compared to 2015.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of the volume of natural gas reserves, according to BP. Currently, the country is able to export natural gas to China and Iran with the possibility of increasing the supply volume. This is while Russia has suspended the purchase of Turkmen gas.
