Uzbek national communication operator implements network modernization project in 2013

Uzbektelecom, the national communications operator in Uzbekistan, will implement a project to upgrade and expand its network at a total value of 138 billion soums in 2013, the company's management told Trend on Thursday.

A representative of the company said that Uzbektelecom carried out a project to develop the local telecommunications network with a total capacity of 292,000 subscriber ports in 2012, expand international switching centers using the next generation network technology, and upgrade the international packet switching center.

The project's implementation is allowed to increase the speed of the international Internet network connection by four times - up to 40 Gbt / s, the rate of using by international Internet networks by 1.6 times - to 7.78 Gbt / s.

Moreover, the company implemented a project in 2012 to expand the mobile network of Uzbektelecom Mobile's branch within the range of 450 MHz. In particular, around 140 base stations were additionally installed and switching centers were built on EV-DO RevA technology.

As a result, the number of Uzmobile users (brand network) in 2012 increased by 2.1 times and exceeded 200,000 subscribers. The level of network coverage in the country increased to 71%.

The projects were financed with Uzbektelecom's own funds.

The official exchange rate is 1,998,82 soums/$1.
