Iran exported 30 metric tons of shrimps to Russia last week.

The Head of Iran Fisheries Organization Hasan Salehi said that if the businesspersons of the two countries reach an agreement over the price, Iran will be able to export 5,000 metric tons of shrimp to Russia by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20), Iran's ISNA News Agency reported on Jan. 12.

"We also have the capacity to export 20,000 metric tons of trout to Moscow in the mentioned period," he added.

Head of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Assadollah Asgaroladi said on Jan. 11 that Iran and Russia will sign a protocol on livestock exports in the next 10 days.

"Iran will start exporting livestock and dairy products to Russia once the protocol is signed," he said.

"We will export shrimp, caviar, and fisheries to Russia in the near future," he said.

Salehi said on Jan. 3, "Russia has issued licenses for 18 Iranian companies to export fisheries to Moscow."

"We have the capacity to export over 5,000 metric tons of fisheries to Russia," he noted.

Tehran is currently studying the possibility of exporting fruits and agricultural products to Moscow, as well.

During an official visit to Tehran by a high-ranking Russian delegation, the country officially requested Iran to increase its agricultural products and food stuff exports to Moscow in order to meet the country's domestic demands.

Asgaroladi said on Sept. 30 that the chamber is studying a plan to replace US dollar with the two country's national currencies - rial and ruble - in bilateral trades.

"A Russian bank is supposed to establish a branch in Tehran, transferring the money to businesspersons at the exchange rate of free market," he explained.
