5.3-degree earthquake jolts southern Iran

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked the city of Masjed Soleiman in Khuzestan province on Thursday morning, Irna reported.

According to Tehran University's seismological center, the quake occurred at 00:47 local time and its epicenter was at the latitude of 31.90 degrees and longitude of 49.53 degrees at the depth of 12 kilometers in a place located 22 kilometers from Masjed Soleiman and 33 kilometers from the city of Izeh in Khuzestan province.

There were no reports of the possible damages caused by the earthquake.

Masjed Soleiman is a city in Khuzestan province and it is located 120 kilometers to the Northeast of the city of Ahvaz.

An earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, hit Ilam province on August 18. The earthquake damaged roads and water, electricity and telecommunication facilities.

Since then, Iran's western provinces of Kermanshah and Ilam have witnessed hundreds of small quakes.
