Rescuers of the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry (MES) have already pulled five people alive, as well as six dead bodies from the rubble in the Turkish province of Van as a result of search and rescue operations, Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry’s website reports.

Rescuers of the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry (MES) have already pulled five people alive, as well as six dead bodies from the rubble in the Turkish province of Van as a result of search and rescue operations, Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry's website reports.

On Monday night Azerbaijani rescuers pulled a 14-year old boy from the rubble and handed him over to his parents. Also a 17-year-old boy, who was taken to hospital and a 29-year-old man were rescued. In addition, a man at the age of 25-30 was rescued.

An earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale took place in southeastern Turkey on Sunday afternoon. Another earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted the devastated province on the night of Oct.24.

The death toll as of Monday night hit 279, while 1,300 people were injured in the Van Province, told Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said.

Local seismologists predict that the death toll can reach 500-1,000 people as a result of the major natural disaster in Turkey.
