The planned military tactical exercises with live firing 'Galkan-2010' ("Shield-2010") took place near Ashgabat. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov attended the exercises, Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary news agency reported.
The Turkmen President is also the supreme commander of the country. According to the report, theater of 'military actions' took place on the territory of the mountain training center of the Ministry of Defence.
Such exercises in Turkmenistan are held each spring to conduct operational activities for the capture and destruction of subversive and terrorist groups, as well as conducting special operations to rescue hostages and neutralize the enemy.
News agency reported that this theme got particular relevance in the modern world. It faced with a real threat of international terrorism and extremism, which pose a serious threat to the entire planet.
Turkmenistan carries out a military reform, which aims at increasing combat readiness of Armed Forces, their planned re-equipping with modern armament and military equipment.
Thus, the army has recently received new samples of military equipment and weapons, in particular, new combat aircraft and helicopters, tanks T-90, infantry combat vehicles BMP-3, multiple launch rocket systems "Tornado", anti- missile system "Pechora-2M", as well as combat ships of various tonnage and others.
