The Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry held regular monitoring of pollution in the transboundary Kur and Araz Rivers during the third decade of February, the ministry reported today.

During the third decade of February, water consumption in the Kur River increased by 2 cubic meters per second to 150 cubic meters per second compared to the second decade of February.

The monitoring found that phenol and copper are strong pollutants. Biogenic substances exceeded the normal points where the river is subjected to transboundary contamination in Georgia and Armenia.

The monitoring revealed that phenol exceeds norms by 4 times, while cooper twice in the Shikhli-2 point. Also monitoring revealed that phenol exceeds norms by twice, copper three times in the Agstafachay point, while phenol exceeds norms by three times and copper four times in the Agstafachay reservoir.

Water consumption in the Araz River was 187 cubic meters per second.

The water's oxygen regime at all points remained at the corridor of 6.25-8.05 milligrams per liter.
