CSTO member states discuss defence industry issues in Astana

Issues of defense and coordination were discussed at the 10th anniversary meeting of the Interstate Commission on Military and Economic Cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on Thursday in Astana, the Kazakh Ministry of Defence reported.

Issues of defence and coordination were discussed at the 10th anniversary meeting of the Interstate Commission on Military and Economic Cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on Thursday in Astana, the Kazakh Ministry of Defence reported.

The meeting was attended by delegations from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

According to the Defence Minister of Kazakhstan Adilbek Dzhaksybekov, at the present stage of military-technical cooperation development, broadening of cooperation, increase in the competitiveness, defense industry should contribute to strengthening of the military-industrial complexes of the CSTO.

He also noted that Kazakhstan is currently implementing the Program of Forced Industrial-Innovative Development, under which it is actively developing its military-industrial potential.

The meeting discussed the draft list of companies and organizations specialization of which should be retained in the interests of the military-economic cooperation of the CSTO member states and the program of military and economic cooperation of the CSTO member states for the period up to 2015 and beyond.

They also discussed standardization of defence products, creation of the interstate system of cataloging the armed forces supplies of the CSTO member states, improvement of the military products supply, the development of enterprise integration ammunition and other industries
