Egypt won't participate in any military interference in Libya, a spokesperson of Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Friday, Xinhua reported.

"Egypt won't take part in any military action against Libya", foreign ministry spokesperson Menha Bakhom was quoted by the state newspaper El Akhbar as saying.

Libya has witnessed weeks of public protests against its leader Muammar Gaddafi and clashes between armed rebels and forces loyal to Gaddafi.

Foreign ministers of Arab League states earlier called on the United Nations Security Council to take its responsibility toward imposing a no-fly zone over Libya and provide safe area to protect the Libyan people.

At an emergency meeting held on Thursday, the U.N. Security Council passed a resolution on endorsing a no-fly zone over Libya and authorizing "all necessary measures", an appointed reference to military operations, to protect civilians in the country.
