Minister of Regional Development of Georgia David Narmania and his deputy Shota Murgulia met with the UN expert for human rights and internally displaced persons and Chaloka Beyani.

As the Ministry reported on Monday, the sides discussed issues related to improving the living conditions of refugees.

At the meeting it was noted that this year the Georgian government is going to spend 80 million lari on projects for relief to the refugees and construction. The funds will be used both for the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the areas of compact settlement of the refugees and for building new houses in Poti and Zugdidi. Particular attention was paid for the construction of housing for refugees in Zugdidi.

As noted by David Narmania, seven five-storey buildings in which apartments for 280 families will be built for refugees in Zugdidi. The project is implemented with the support and funding of KFW.

The minister also touched on the issues of socio-economic integration of refugees and said that along with the improvement of their living conditions, their employment and social integration arte also very important.
