BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a U.S.-based think tank, has launched a fresh wave of propaganda against Azerbaijan just days ahead of the highly anticipated COP29 summit in Baku. In a recent article published by an outlet affiliated with the institute, so-called "experts" took aim at Azerbaijan's peace initiative, the Truce COP, which is set to be a centerpiece of the upcoming climate summit.
The article accuses Azerbaijan of "peacewashing", a baseless claim that echoes Armenian talking points. It’s clear that the authors of the piece failed to provide any substantial evidence to back their allegations. Aside from the recycled accusations of "caviar diplomacy" - a tired narrative often peddled by pro-Armenian propagandists - the authors had little else to contribute.
With COP29 poised to welcome hundreds of thousands of attendees, including high-ranking officials, leaders of major energy firms, and climate experts from around the world, Azerbaijan’s Truce COP initiative is more relevant than ever.
The 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), scheduled to take place in Baku from November 11 to 22, 2024, is expected to serve as a truce summit, with a one-month global ceasefire proposed during the event. "This initiative is inspired by the Olympic Truce," explained Yalchin Rafiev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and the chief negotiator for COP29. The call for a ceasefire, he added, is driven "not only by the need to promote peace but also by the fact that military activities contribute 5-6% of global emissions."
In the face of blatant propaganda from the Quincy Institute, it's clear that those who oppose Azerbaijan’s COP Truce initiative are more interested in brainwashing the international community than supporting genuine efforts for peace and environmental progress. Accusing Azerbaijan of "peacewashing" while pushing their own distorted narratives is not just hypocritical, it’s dangerous. Azerbaijan’s commitment to a global ceasefire and reducing the harmful effects of war on our planet is not a PR stunt — it’s leadership. Critics like these, who manipulate facts to fit their biased agendas, are the real threat to peace. It’s time for them to stop brainwashing and let real diplomacy take the stage.
