Turkmenistan, China discuss key areas of cooperation ahead of upcoming summit

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 15. Today, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmed Gurbanov, held a meeting with the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the "Central Asia – China" format, Sun Weidong, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The main topic of the discussions was the preparation for the second summit of heads of state in this format, which is scheduled to be held in 2025 in Astana.

The participants of the meeting positively assessed the existing mechanism of multilateral dialogue between the Central Asian countries and China, highlighting its constructive nature. The discussions covered key areas of regional cooperation, including trade and economic relations, the energy sector, transport and communication projects, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Special attention was given to the Turkmen-Chinese partnership, emphasizing its strategic and long-term nature. The participants noted that the high level of trust and friendly relations between the leaders of Turkmenistan and China contribute to the further strengthening and expansion of bilateral cooperation.

It is worth noting that the first summit in the "China-Central Asia" format took place on May 18-19, 2023, in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China.
