BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. The essential subjects of the US-Iran discussions would encompass the imposition of restrictions on uranium enrichment levels in Tehran, with armament control, particularly concerning missiles, US Presidential Special Representative Steven Witkoff said, Trend reports.
He pointed out that the discussions with the Iranian side will primarily revolve around two key issues.
"First, it is enrichment [of uranium]. They do not need enrichment above 3.67 percent. Then, the mechanisms needed to verify weapons, including missiles, that they have stockpiled," he said.
Witkoff pointed out that to strike a deal between the two countries, a solid verification mechanism is the name of the game, which has been missing in action for the past several years.
On April 12, indirect talks between Iran and the US on Iran’s nuclear program were held in Muscat, Oman. The discussions, led by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and the US Special Representative for Middle East Affairs, Steve Witkoff, were described as constructive and based on mutual respect. The next round of talks is scheduled for April 19.
