EU Makes Same Requirements for Azerbaijan and Russia German Ambassador

The Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan, Pier Stankin, stated at the press conference dedicated to the chairmanship of Germany to the European Union that during Germany's chairmanship to the European Union, the organization intends to further strengthen the co-operation with regards to the neighborhood policy, Trend reports.

He stressed that it also includes the co-operation in exchange of people, ideas, science and culture. The EU intends to increase the numbers of its neighbors. On 14 November 2006, a document was signed regarding its neighborhood with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The neighborhood policy is a very significant tool, the Ambassador said. He said that they would like to see progress in the political and economical reforms in these countries and create stability and security. Stankin underlined that two reports would be prepared as a result of the implementation of the action plans with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. The EU special representative to Azerbaijan, Alan Vadmas, who attended the press conference, stated that the first report would be ready by the end of this year. The success of this document will depend upon the level of co-operation of Azerbaijan with the EU, he said.

The German Ambassador to Azerbaijan stated that the requirements for Azerbaijan are the same as those for Russia. The EU considers that Azerbaijan and Russia should adopt a law On competition and strengthen the energy co-operation.
