BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. Hungary's largest wholesale natural gas trader, MVM CEEnergy Zrt in April 2024 started using gas supplied to it by SOCAR Trading in the summer of 2023, an informed source told Trend.

“Based on a deal signed in 2023 between SOCAR and MVM CEEnergy Zrt for the potential supply of up to 100 million cubic meters of gas to Hungary, SOCAR Trading pumped 50 million cubic meters of gas into storage in Hungary last year in the summer of 2023. In April 2024, this volume of gas was utilized and delivered to Hungary's gas distribution networks,” the source explained.

To note, at the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary today, Hungarian Foreign Minister (co-chairman of the Commission) Péter Szijjártó voiced the growth of gas purchases by Azerbaijan in the future.

Meanwhile, Hungary's gas needs are more than 8 billion cubic meters per year.
