Criminal case filed against Turkish businessman in Azerbaijan

A criminal case was filed against the President of Turkish Barmek Company Huseyn Arabul, who was formerly convicted in Azerbaijan for corruption offenses, in accordance with the article 318 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (illegal crossing the state border of Azerbaijan Republic).

Arabul's lawyer Abbas Atakishiyev told Trend on June 3.

Sentenced to conditional punishment for the corruption in Azerbaijan, Arabul is currently in detention centre of the State Border Service for attempting to cross the border illegally.

According to the lawyer, Arabul was detained by the Georgian border guards and handed over to the Azerbaijani side.

According to the decision of the Court on Heinous Crimes, in 2007 Arabul was sentenced to five-year conditional punishment and a penal totaling 1,370,000 manats.

Arabul can not leave Azerbaijan unless the period of punishment completes.

It was failure to obtain additional information from the State Border.
