Azerbaijan's population grew by 0.3 percent during the first quarter of this year.

According to statistics for April 1 the population increased by 29.1 thousand persons or 0.3 percent and reached 9 264 200 people, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend.

The population density for the period reached 107 people per square kilometer. Some 49.6 percent of the population are men, 50.4 per cent - are women. Age of 22 percent of the population is up to 14 years, 72 percent - 15-64 years old, 6 percent - 65 and older.

Currently in Azerbaijan there are 1015 female for every 1000 males.

In the first three months of this year 43.1 thousand children were born in Azerbaijan. The birth rate increased from 18.9 to 19 per every 1.000 people compared to the corresponding period last year. Some 53.8 percent of babies were boys, 46.2 per cent - girls.

Some 14.4 thousand deaths were registered in the first quarter of the year. Number of deaths per thousand inhabitants remained at the same level as that for the corresponding period last year (6.3).
